Lobby & Advocacy : Strasbourg: the fight for LGBT rights is not over yet
Eight human rights activists from five CIS countries had an internship in Strasbourg on January 24-29. The trip was organized by the European Office of the International Lesbian and Gay Association ILGA-Europe for representatives of countries acting within the PRECIS project. The Moldovan non-governmental organization “GenderDoc-M” was represented by the women’s program coordinator Anastasia Danilova.
Lobby & Advocacy : Today is the International Human Rights Day. On this day, sexual minorities do not ask for too much, they demand only what is guaranteed to them by law
There are people in Moldova who have to assert even the rights guaranteed to them by birth – these are disabled people, national and religious minorities, as well as LGBT representatives. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, they are full-fledged members of the society. But will this law have effect if the society itself does not want to consider all its members full-fledged? The Executive Director of the Information Center “GenderDoc-M”, Boris BALANETKII, reflects on this and many other issues on the eve of the International Human Rights Day in the conversation with the “Nezavisimaia Moldova” reporter.
Lobby & Advocacy : Men in passports are women in reality. Or who must solve problems faced by transsexuals?
We have already told about a new initiative group that appeared in the Information Center “GenderDoc-M” in March 2008. It was formed by transgenders. Despite no structural changes, the group itself has widened and the guys have the first achievements.
Lobby & Advocacy : Dear Legislators, prove that you are men, protect people from the poverty and lawlessness!
In Moldova, they are so much afraid of gays that they are ready to sacrifice to pensioners and unmarried mothers.
This summer the Baptists led some aggressive actions in Chisinau. It sounds strange, but it is so. Why did they protest? The kind Christians fought against the sinfulness, projecting the unisex marriages. The protestants based on the legislation about the non-discrimination, which is being prepared by The Ministry of Justice for the adoption. However, no one, whose mind was agitated by the aggressive preachers, from those who protested had read the legislation. Probably, the rate was done for this. Because, if this project was read by , so they would find out, that the talk is not about the legalization of unisex marriages.
Lobby & Advocacy : Iurii Perevoznik: “The State Must Protect Its Citizens”
Till now the rumors about the festival “Rainbow over Dniester-2008” are spread, and here and there we find out some new statements and letters addressed to us or concern us. Too keenly people comment on the blockade of “blue caravan” (in such a way people call the bus with the activists, which was blocked by the group of extremists on 11 May this year in the street ‘31 August’). Also the principle estimation of ombudsman Iurii Perevoznik of the lawlessness took place at that day became for us a pleasant surprise. Basing on article 27 of the law about the ombudsman, he notified the Ministry of Internal Affairs about the problem of implementation of the right to freedom of assembly.
Lobby & Advocacy : Moldovan authorities deny LGBT community the constitutional right to a peaceful demonstration for a second year
The city authorities of Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, have refused to authorize a peaceful demonstration in support of the adoption of anti-discrimination legislation for sexual minorities. The demonstration was planned to take place on 5 May in front of the Moldovan Parliament as part of the Fifth Moldovan LGBT Pride festival, organized by the Information Centre GenderDoc-M.
Lobby & Advocacy : A Letter of Great Concern from the Information Centre “GenderDoc-M” to the Minister of Health of the Republic of Moldova
The Information Centre “GenderDoc-M” has expressed its concern with what it feels is inadequate healthcare assistance to the members of the LGBT community and asked the Ministry of Health to undertake measures with the view of preventing discrimination at healthcare institutions.
